Surah Al-Alaq

(سورة العَلَقِ)
Surah 96 • Category: Meccan • Verses: 19
1

اِقۡرَاۡ بِاسۡمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِىۡ خَلَقَ​ۚ

English Translation
Recite in the name of your Lord who created -
2

خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ​ۚ

English Translation
Created man from a clinging substance.
3

اِقۡرَاۡ وَرَبُّكَ الۡاَكۡرَمُۙ

English Translation
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -
4

الَّذِىۡ عَلَّمَ بِالۡقَلَمِۙ

English Translation
Who taught by the pen -
5

عَلَّمَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡؕ

English Translation
Taught man that which he knew not.
6

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لَيَطۡغٰٓىۙ

English Translation
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses
7

اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰىؕ

English Translation
Because he sees himself self-sufficient.
8

اِنَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكَ الرُّجۡعٰىؕ

English Translation
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
9

اَرَءَيۡتَ الَّذِىۡ يَنۡهٰىؕ

English Translation
Have you seen the one who forbids
10

عَبۡدًا اِذَا صَلّٰىؕ

English Translation
A servant when he prays?
11

اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَانَ عَلَى الۡهُدٰٓىۙ

English Translation
Have you seen if he is upon guidance
12

اَوۡ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقۡوٰىۙ

English Translation
Or enjoins righteousness?
13

اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىؕ

English Translation
Have you seen if he denies and turns away -
14

اَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَرٰىؕ

English Translation
Does he not know that Allah sees?
15

كَلَّا لَٮِٕنۡ لَّمۡ يَنۡتَهِ  ۙ لَنَسۡفَعًۢا بِالنَّاصِيَةِۙ

English Translation
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock -
16

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ​ ۚ

English Translation
A lying, sinning forelock.
17

فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهٗ ۙ

English Translation
Then let him call his associates;
18

سَنَدۡعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ ۙ

English Translation
We will call the angels of Hell.
19

كَلَّا ؕ لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَاسۡجُدۡ وَاقۡتَرِبْ۩ ۧ

English Translation
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
